Listed equipment, and why the paperwork is the product
UL 864 is the listing standard for fire alarm control units and accessories. In practice it is the reason your inspector asks what is in the cabinet, and the reason a documentation package matters as much as the hardware.

What it requires

Why it matters to your lines
When a fire line is replaced, the inspector is not evaluating your phone service. They are evaluating whether the equipment attached to a life-safety system is listed for the job in your jurisdiction. That question is answered with paper, and assembling that paper is most of what a competent installation actually delivers.
